Michigan ranked 5th in USA Today preseason coaches poll

Alabama-AM-at-Michigan-5[1]Michigan is ranked 5th in the USA Today College Basketball Preseason Top 25 Coaches Poll which was released this afternoon.

This is the second consecutive season that Michigan has been tabbed in the preseason poll, after being slotted at 18th last season. The Wolverines peaked at No. 13 last season but finished at No. 22 after an upset loss to Ohio University.

Michigan has received plenty of other lofty preseason rankings this summer. The Wolverines are ranked 3rd by Lindy’s Sports, 5th by Blue Ribbon Magazine and 6th by Athlon Sports in their preseason publications.

The Wolverines are one of five Big Ten teams in the preseason top 25 and there are three Big Ten schools in the top five. Indiana is the preseason number 1 while Ohio State (4), Michigan State (14) and Wisconsin (21) are also ranked.
