U-M to handle Fab Five issues after May when Chris Webber ban ends

Rod Beard of the Detroit News on Michigan’s plans for the Fab Five post-ban:

The ruling was rendered in 2003, which means the ban ends this year — on May 8, according to a U-M spokesperson.

At that time, the school can resume contact and, if it chooses, pay tribute to all five members of the Fab Five. However, no formal plans have been announced.

“This is a circumstance that will be handled and addressed after that date,” the spokesperson said.

“Any type of recognition as it relates to banners to me would suffice; it would be legitimate, it would be validated,” (Jalen) Rose told The Detroit News.

Rose said he is not aware of any movement toward a ceremony or celebration involving the Fab Five or any of the players involved in the scandal.

“Not a centimeter, not an inch that I know about,” said Rose, an analyst for ESPN.
