- FOX Sports’ Jeff Goodman will be in Ann Arbor tomorrow checking out Michigan’s practice. Goodman will have already visited Kansas, Illinois, Butler, Purdue, Notre Dame, and Michigan State in the last couple days so it will be interesting to see what Goodman has to say after his visit.
- Jack Ebling previewed Michigan with his Spartan-esque approach for The Sporting News. The Sporting News picks Michigan 23rd in their pre-season rankings and Mike DeCourcy points to Michigan’s shoddy interior defense as a reason to mope.
- Seth Davis’ question for Michigan this year is “Michigan: How quickly will Darius Morris pick up John Beilein’s system?” Davis notes that Beilein’s intricate system can make it hard for an impact freshmen but it’s not impossible.
- The Penn State weekend will be a big recruiting weekend for the basketball team, 2010 commitment Evan Smotrycz and wing forward Trey Zeigler are scheduled to make official visits to Ann Arbor.
- 2011 power forward Cody Zeller visited UNC’s “Late Night with Roy” over the weekend and is considering an unofficial visit to Ann Arbor.
- Kalamazoo wing forward Devin Oliver verbally committed to Dayton over the weekend. Oliver is an intriguing prospect and talk about him coming to Michigan on the Kalamazoo Promise had been tossed around, however he is too good to walk-on at Michigan. Dayton is a good fit for Oliver and they are a quality Atlantic 10 program.
- 2011 big man Amir Williams visited Miami for their Midnight Madness festivities.
- Minnesota’s Midnight Madness celebration featured a pretty impressive dunk contest including a 360 dunk from almost the free throw line from Rodney Williams. The scene in East Lansing featured Tom Izzo driving a green go-kart.
- Computers replacing sportswriters? Say it ain’t so.
- John Gasaway and the folks over at Basketball Prospectus are putting out another book this year. John was nice enough to do answer some questions about Michigan and the Big Ten and that should be going up around here today or tomorrow.
