Pierre Brooks first met Michigan coach Juwan Howard at a U-M camp this past summer. The 2021 guard had developed a rapport with John Beilein and his staff, but he was unsure whether that relationship would carry over to the new staff.
Those concerns dissipated quickly.
“‘I heard a lot about you,’ Brooks recalled Howard saying at the camp. “‘Looking forward to seeing you play.’”
This past week, Howard fulfilled those words, attending one of Brooks’ practices at Douglass Academy in Detroit. He capped it with an offer.
“I’ve actually been speaking with Michigan for a couple years,” Brooks said. “I been knowing the coaching staff since the end of my eighth grade year. They’ve been keeping a relationship and a bond with me ever since. So I think the offer was really, like a statement for me. They really want me to come play for them. I just appreciate the opportunity.”
