There are numerous suitors vying for Devin Royal, the versatile forward who is climbing recruiting rankings.
Royal — a four-star prospect and the 77th-ranked recruit in the Class of 2023, per 247Sports’ composite rankings — is drawing heavy interest from Michigan State, Ohio State and Marquette, amongst others.
And last Wednesday, Michigan officially entered the race, extending an offer Royal’s way.
To those who know his game best, the Big Ten is Royal’s quintessential basketball ecosystem.
“The fit is ideal,” said Kyle Byrd, Royal’s AAU coach with All-Ohio Red. “You see players from a multitude of those kinds of programs, those hybrid forwards, they have success in the Big Ten. … He kind of reminds you of an E.J. Liddell, or maybe a little bit shorter Adreian Payne. Guys that have success being that versatile player. I can see him succeeding at any school, but definitely in the Big Ten.”
