Michigan is among the schools recruiting Auburn freshman Chance Westry, per Dushawn London. Westry entered the transfer portal earlier this week.
Along with Michigan, Westry is also hearing from Memphis, Syracuse, Mississippi State, Georgia, Florida, Seton Hall, St. John’s, Maryland, La Salle, and Miami.
Westry was a top-40 recruit in the 2022 class and is listed at 6-foot-6, 190 pounds. He only played in 11 games as a freshman after a preseason knee injury derailed his season. He attempted to return before Auburn shut him down in early January with plans to apply for a medical redshirt. He averaged 2.5 points and 1 assist per game in limited playing time.,
“Chance Westry offensively was, if not the, one of our best guards this summer,” Bruce Pearl said in January. “So, he did a great job coming in, did a great job as a freshman. Then the very beginning of the semester, he hurts his knee…. He comes back, and maybe I make the mistake of trying to play him at some point guard, but that was where there may have only been 10 minutes a game, and he wasn’t ready. He’s more ready now, but that doesn’t mean I’m going to put him in right now. It’s just hard to miss all that time, miss all those reps, and then I’m going to put him in right now in the middle of the SEC?”
Westry underwent preseason knee surgery in October after aggravating a knee injury where the kneecap “kind of dislocates,” per Pearl. Dr. James Andrews performed the surgery and Westry was expected back in 3-4 weeks. Instead, he debuted six weeks later and struggled to regain his form.
Michigan recruited Westry out of high school and offered him a scholarship but eventually lost out on his services to Auburn.
