Jace Howard sidelined 4-6 weeks with stress fracture in right knee

Michigan forward Jace Howard will be sidelined for the next 4 to 6 weeks with a stress fracture in his right knee, the program announced today.

Howard has been sidelined throughout most of the preseason, including at Media Day, Michigan’s intrasquad scrimmage and a secret scrimmage at Marquette. Here’s the full University release:

David and Meredith Kaplan University of Michigan men’s basketball coach Juwan Howard announced Friday (Nov. 3) that guard Jace Howard will miss four to six weeks due to a stress fracture in his right knee and tibia.

“This is unfortunate for Jace as he is a vital member of this program,” said Juwan Howard. “We know over the next four to six weeks he will be diligent and work as hard as he can to get healthy.”

“You never want to get injured, especially at the beginning of a season,” said Jace Howard. “It hasn’t been easy not being with my brothers on the floor, however, I am going to continue to be a voice and make an impact.”

The Miami native is a two-time Academic All-Big Ten selection. Playing in 55 career games, Howard came off the bench in 30 games last season while setting career bests in nearly every statistical category. He highlighted the season with six points and three rebounds in 18 minutes at Penn State (Jan. 29).

Yikes. So we have 9 available scholarship players for the foreseeable future?

Probably something that will have a bigger effect on practice than games. It’s already hard enough to have competitive practices with only one real PG, but you can’t even go 5 on 5 with scholarship players. It also makes it hard to give GW3 practice minutes playing with Dug.

That’s assuming JL is ready to go right?

No, it is 10 with JL. I’m assuming he’s not ready

It’s been nine all preseason as far as I can tell. Same group as the media day practice, open scrimmage, secret scrimmage.
