Olivier Nkamhoua snuck over to the whiteboard pregame. He scribbled down a message. Tiny, “so I wouldn’t get in anybody’s way.”
A journey of a thousand miles begins with one step.
With that, Michigan took its first step of the season Tuesday night in a 99-74 win against UNC Asheville. Dropping a combined 47 points against the Bulldogs, Nkamhoua and Dug McDaniel showed they can walk the Wolverines through the miles. They even proved they can fly.
With just over two minutes left in the first half, McDaniel and Nkamhoua played with mostly a cast of backups around them. McDaniel broke out of pressure, dribbled to half court and let a lob fly. Nkamhoua sprinted off the elbow and slammed down the alley oop. For 10,000 fans in attendance, the moment sparked a roar.
