Game 23: Wisconsin at Michigan Recap

Even in a season that feels like a lost cause, winning is still fun. The alternative to winning is losing, and losing to Wisconsin ranks pretty high on the list of miserable experiences for any Michigan basketball fan.

For the first time since Martin Luther King Day, Michigan won a game. Michigan even won a close game and a game that it led at halftime.

Over the weekend, Juwan Howard threatened to start his walk-ons in the second half. Tonight, he benched his two best players for over eight minutes in the final quarter of action. The move didn’t unlock something magical or transform anything that Michigan did on offense or defense.

In fact, most things that haven’t worked for this team all season continued not to work. But that bench unit without Dug McDaniel and Olivier Nkamhoua on the floor played hard enough and made just enough plays to win the game.

And for a night, that’s a good feeling.
