As Michigan gears up for the 2024-25 season, one of the most exciting additions to the roster is graduate guard Rubin Jones. With an impressive collegiate career at North Texas under his belt — including leading the Mean Green to an NIT championship — Jones is poised to make a significant impact in his first season under head coach Dusty May.
The resume that Jones built at North Texas was impressive. Over four seasons, he compiled a 93-39 record, securing him the title of the school’s all-time winningest player. Known for his defensive prowess, Jones was named to the Conference USA All-Defensive team as a junior and among the best defenders in the American Athletic Conference last year, guarding multiple positions effectively. Standing at 6-foot-5, his ball-hawking skills and versatile offensive game make him a valuable asset for the Wolverines.
Transitioning to a new program can be challenging, but Jones is embracing the changes.
“Early on, it was a lot of forgetting what I learned a little bit because at North Texas, we played the slowest offense in the country,” Jones said at Michigan Media Day. “Coach May made it really simple for me, he breaks it down into small segments…so it makes it easy for you to learn. (It’s) starting to feel more natural. I’m not even thinking twice right now, and I know as the season goes, once we get to playing other teams, it’s gonna definitely come on easy.”
