First time I can recall Dusty being a little edgy in a pressor, at least that was my sense.
umhoops
Wasn’t there, but didn’t feel super edgy to me on the video.
Thought his comments were really on point. The part about being disappointed looking back at the Arkansas film sounds right; a lot of defensive breakdowns that weren’t there earlier in the year.

My biggest Dustry presser takeaway continues to be that just about everything he says makes sense and matches the numbers.
It’s rarely fluff/coach speak. He’s giving real basketball answers and they all line up with KenPom or Synergy or whatever.
You’d think that’s an obvious thing for a head coach, but it really isn’t. There are a ton of coaches who will give a presser and talk about something that doesn’t match the numbers. Or who try to discredit KenPom. Or who basically only lean on coach speak and motivational-type language.
I do think there’s something generational about the language, too. KenPom has existed throughout Dusty’s entire coaching career. He talks like someone that has been on KenPom his entire career.
Someone like Beilein would explain the same concepts but use his language, and his understanding. He’d basically have taught himself his own way to see the game that way and discuss the game that way.

I know that it probably doesn’t matter like wins/losses but it is so refreshing to have a major coach who just understands how to handle the media/PR/public so professionally, honestly, genuinely, and in a way that gives you confidence for the program win or lose. I loathe the coaches who think every word they say has to be guarded like Fort Knox or look down on the media/public because they think it is a waste of their time to answer those types of questions. I don’t need some hype machine rah-rah guy and I respect not wanting to get too deep into the strategic aspects of the job - but handling yourself well in these settings does matter…at least a little…and at least to me.

Outside of the question where he replied, “I think you know the answer to that…” it seemed pretty normal?
Speaking from personal experience I think he’s probably a naturally impatient person who has trained himself to be patient so that he can be the type of leader he needs and wants to be. I do think we’re approaching the point where his patience is wearing thin in certain regards and that may show up in his responses a bit more.
