Michigan will open the 2025 Big Ten Tournament on Friday night in the late game against either No. 6 Purdue, No. 11 Rutgers or No. 14 USC.
The Wolverines finished in a tie for second with Maryland at 14-6 in league games, but the Terps own the tiebreaker due to their win in Ann Arbor last week.
Michigan was 1-1 against Purdue, 2-0 against Rutgers and 1-0 against USC this season. The winner of Friday’s nightcap advances to the semifinal to face either Maryland, Illinois, Ohio State or Iowa.
Nebraska, Penn State and Washington failed to qualify for the Big Ten Tournament.

Interesting spot for Michigan. I don’t hate the matchup with Purdue (compared to Illinois or Wisconsin), even though we are in Indianapolis. Purdue has 3 primary players and has a game beforehand. Rutgers/USC have athletic players, so that could tire them out.
Plus, last 10 games for Purdue, they are close to worst in the country at 2P% defense. We have imploded from 3, but our 2 Pt Offense is still top 70, which is incredible given how one dimensional we’ve gotten. If we can survive a 3 pt differential and find parity on the glass, we can win this one, which would do a ton for confidence and probably hold steady at the 5 seed I would think.
