Michigan sophomores LJ Cason and Morez Johnson Jr. are among the crop of players invited to try out for the 2025 USA Basketball Men’s U19 National Team.
The training camp begins on June 14th. It will see 33 invited athletes cut down to 12 players for the USA National Team, which will participate in the 2025 FIBA U19 Men’s World Cup in Switzerland which begins on June 28th.
Johnson has represented Team USA before, winning a gold medal at the 2024 FIBA Men’s U18 AmeriCup. This will be Cason’s first action with USA Basketball.
The list of invitees includes players from the collegiate ranks, the incoming 2025 class, and the class of 2026:
From the collegiate ranks will be LJ Cason, Tony Duckett, Daniel Jacobsen, Morez Johnson Jr., Royce Parham, Tyrone Riley IV and Tyler Tanner.
The class of 2025 includes Matt Able, Mikel Brown Jr., Chris Cenac Jr., AJ Dybantsa, Hudson Greer, Isiah Harwell, Jasper Johnson, Nik Khamenia, Nykolas Lewis, JJ Mandaquit, Malachi Moreno, Koa Peat and Sadiq White.

Redshirt freshman Oscar Goodman, who was announced on New Zealand’s roster earlier this month, will also participate in the 2025 FIBA U19 Men’s World Cup.

wow! congrats! very exciting
umhoops
Worry sometimes about offseason FIBA stuff taking away from early season development/offseason reps/etc… but I think it makes a lot of sense for both Cason and Johnson in this situation.

LJ Cason will look great in a Mark Pope offense
umhoops
Some of that is pretty normal because the most talented high school kids are always available (or much more available)… The college aged kids are usually more in like the Cason mold of promising but need some reps.
Really fascinated to see if Cason can make the squad, would be fun to follow him and I think the reps could be so useful for his development.
I want to say Tim Hardaway Jr. was the last Michigan guy to play Team USA U19s?
Boynton’s USA BB connections have to help a bit here.
