Team USA tips off group stage play on June 28th and will play games against Australia (June 28th, 11:15 AM), France (June 29th, 2:00 PM), and Cameroon (July 1st, 11:15 AM). Group stage play is followed by knockout rounds, which run through July 6th.
Johnson averaged 7 points and 6.7 rebounds per game as a freshman at Illinois before entering the transfer portal. He played with Team USA at the FIBA U18 AmericUp in 2024, averaging 8 points and 9 rebounds per game en route to a gold medal.
National media in attendance pegged Johnson as one of the most impressive bigs in training camp, and he’s expected to contend for a starting spot on a loaded U19 roster. The other primary center on the team is Purdue’s Daniel Jacobsen.
Michigan sophomore LJ Cason also tried out for the U19 squad but didn’t make the initial cut from 31 players to 18.
The last Wolverine to represent Team USA at the U19 World Cup was Tim Hardaway Jr. in 2011.
Redshirt freshman Oscar Goodman was selected to represent New Zealand. Goodman averaged 17 points and 6.3 rebounds per game at last year’s FIBA U17 World Cup, helping New Zealand to a semifinal appearance and earning a spot on the All-Star Five.

umhoops
It will be fun to watch Morez and Oscar at the U19s. Really high-level FIBA event obviously, and both will be in pretty unique contexts, but still informative setting.

He’s very likeable. It looks like he’s also had some on-camera training, doing “the nod” while the other person is talking. Maybe TV is in his future, down the road?
