College coaches fan out across the country for the first of two July live evaluation periods today, the final two evaluation opportunities of the summer.
Coaches have had their chances to evaluate at high school events and NBPA Top 100 Camp over the last few weeks, but the next two weekends are the most significant grassroots evaluation period on the calendar, and the first time coaches can watch circuit play since May — when the transfer portal was still in full swing.
The 2026 recruiting cycle has become defined by its slow pace, with the combination of the transfer portal, revenue sharing and NIL changes forcing everything to a crawl. As of right now, only four of the top 50 players in the class have made commitments.
These July evaluation weekends should help push things forward in the class, with priorities becoming more established, lists being cut, and fall visits being scheduled.
