Seven thoughts on Michigan after an early practice look

Michigan opened the doors to practice last week for Media Day, providing a sneak peek at the new-look roster.

We’ve shared plenty of takeaways from Media Day, but here are some leftover thoughts, musings, and questions after seeing the Wolverines in person with the first exhibition game less than two weeks away.

1. Elliot Cadeau’s passes make shooters better

There wasn’t a ton of five-on-five action in last week’s practice, but one thing I noticed watching Elliot Cadeau is that his passes consistently hit shooters in a way that makes you trust the shot is going in. They are on time and on target, right where the shooter needs the ball.

His vision and passing make his teammates better. It’s one of those things that is hard to quantify, but it just feels like teams with great passers become better shooting teams. Cadeau is a great passer, and he’s surrounded by players at other positions who aren’t afraid to move the ball themselves.

Having lob threats at the rim is going to help, too, but his ability to get where he needs to go to get the ball where it needs to go really stood out in both practices that have been open to the media.

There’s a lot that Cadeau has to prove — his consistency, his ability to cut down on errant passes in between the perfect ones, and his shooting are all valid concerns — but when you see some of his passing flashes, you quickly start to understand the vision behind why Dusty May recruited him out of the portal.
