Over the last few years, we’ve borrowed an idea from Adam Jardy of the Columbus Dispatch to roll out our season preview player profiles in a power-ranking format. We’ll preview every player on the roster while ranking them by some arbitrary combination of ability, importance, and role.
We’re bringing the same thing back this season. I ranked each scholarship player (1 through 13) based on their expected impact on the 2025-26 season, and we’ll dive into each player in-depth as we near tip-off. This approach is more straightforward than a position-by-position preview because those often get bogged down in a debate about each player’s position rather than their importance and role on the roster.
First up, we look at the reserves, Oscar Goodman, Malick Kordel, and Ricky Liburd — a group that includes developmental pieces from three different countries, Michigan’s youngest player, and oldest newcomer.
No. 11 Oscar Goodman
#5 | 6-7, 235 pounds | RS Freshman | Forward
Oscar Goodman is a jack-of-all-trades forward listed at 6-foot-7, 235 pounds.
The last 24 months of Goodman’s career have been unique. In the summer of 2024, he broke out with New Zealand at the FIBA U17 World Cup, earning a spot on the All-Star five, and then followed that up with an excellent showing at the NBA Global Academy. He quickly became a high-major recruit and committed to Michigan.
The combination of injuries, school, competition calendars, and international basketball means that Goodman doesn’t have as many game reps as most players over the last calendar year.
