The No. 2 Michigan men’s basketball team is undefeated and has won its 13 games by an average margin of 30.2 points. The Wolverines have also eclipsed the 100-point mark seven times, won by 40 or more six times, and became the first team in AP poll history to beat three consecutive ranked opponents by 30 or more.
To say Michigan has been dominant is nearly an understatement. But one thing you can’t say about the Wolverines is that they’re getting complacent.
Against Wake Forest and TCU, Michigan struggled just to come away with wins. After taking down three likely tournament teams at the Players Era Tournament, though, the Wolverines proved that not only can they compete with the best in the country, but blow them out.
After the trip to Las Vegas, Michigan coach Dusty May’s message was clear — keep playing up to the standard. Now a 13-0 team and one vote behind the No. 1 spot in the AP poll, Michigan and May feel like they can only get better.
“There hasn’t been any complacency,” May said. “We have a group that loves to compete. Also, when you have the depth that we have, if one of the guys isn’t in the right mind space, and the guy checking in for him is probably going to bring it, then he’ll probably take it home that game. So really as an individual, guys don’t have any margin of error. And also, once again, I think there’s a real community to our group, that they’re accountable to each other. They’re not going to let each other down when it comes to effort.”
