Michigan picked up a comfortable 86-72 victory over Indiana on Tuesday. After two close, but in the end comfortable, wins over West Coast foes Washington and Oregon — and their own loss at home to Wisconsin before that — the Wolverines looked closer to a return to form against the Hoosiers to begin their three-game homestand.
Here are five takeaways from Michigan’s win over Indiana.
Elliot Cadeau buoys Michigan offense early
Since being blanked against the Huskies, junior point guard Elliot Cadeau has been on a mission to produce more.
“(My focus was) just playing better,” Cadeau said. “I don’t think I had a good game against Washington, so I just try to be better for my team. I felt like they needed me more during Washington, so I just focused on being better overall.”
Cadeau bounced back instantly with 17 against Oregon. He maintained that output on Tuesday, putting up 19 with most of his damage being done in the first half. Cadeau’s 12 first-half points made up for the Wolverines’ nine turnovers and seven misses from the charity stripe.
“He’s shooting the ball well,” Michigan coach Dusty May said. “He spends a lot of time in the gym with the staff, working on his game, being consistent with it, and so we trusted and each night, if they go over his pick and roll, obviously he’s such a good passer to Aday (Mara) and Morez (Johnson) on the rolls or to the shooters, on the fan out. So Indiana was going under or late switching. And so those, were the shots that we needed him, especially early game.”
