Looking up at the banners in the Schottenstein Center during pregame warmups was a reminder that in the early days of this website, Ohio State was arguably the class of the Big Ten.

For the first decade of Thad Matta’s tenure, the Buckeyes had the best players, best teams and were the standard the rest of the league was held to. For John Beilein’s upstart program, they were the measuring stick. More often than not in those early years, Michigan would do a lot of things right against Ohio State, but fall short strictly because Ohio State had better players.

The Buckeyes are a long way from those early days under Matta, and Matta’s rapid rise to the top of the Big Ten might be the best comparison for what Dusty May has put together in Ann Arbor in just two years.

On Sunday afternoon, Michigan had the better players. The Wolverines were able to keep the Buckeyes at arm’s length throughout in a wire-to-wire win because they had more talent, more solutions on offense and defense, and a better approach.

It was the sort of win that felt like a reminder of Michigan’s ability — even in a rivalry game on the road — and a sign that the Wolverines are rounding back into form for the stretch run.

Here’s our dive into the film, analytics and more in this week’s Report Card after a rewatch.
