In a battle of the two best teams in college basketball, Michigan blinked on Saturday night.
The atmosphere inside Capital One Arena felt worthy of the hype. It was only February, but with over 20,000 people jammed into the building, you would easily believe it was next month’s regional in the same gym.
Something had to give in a duel of teams that had lost three games combined for the entire season and want to win in similar ways. Both teams can’t win in the paint, on the glass, and with their size. On Saturday, Duke’s size won out.
This wasn’t a story of hot shooting or fluky performance. Duke landed its punches tonight, and Michigan didn’t. It’s not the postseason yet, but the 68-63 loss was a healthy reminder for the Wolverines of how hard it will be to win six games in March.
