Michigan freshman Trey McKenney is returning to Ann Arbor for his sophomore season, as first reported by ESPN.
McKenney averaged 9.9 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 0.9 assists in 22.1 minutes per game as a freshman. He was one of the best bench players in the Big Ten and earned a spot on the All-Big Ten Freshman team.
He hit 12 threes in the NCAA Tournament, including the biggest shot of the National Championship late in the second half against UConn.
McKenney’s return should solidify him as one of the featured pieces in Michigan’s offense, as he’s in line for a significantly bigger role as a sophomore. He’s the second Wolverine to announce his return, joining starting point guard Elliot Cadeau.
