2026-27 Season

Jalen Reed ahead of schedule, Marcus Moller full-go as Michigan departs for Europe

The Michigan men’s basketball team is heading off to Europe Thursday to play three international exhibitions, its first contests under new head coach Mike Boynton. And two days before leaving, Boynton delivered good news Tuesday morning about the health of three newcomers on his 2026-27 roster.

Boynton shared that LSU transfer forward Jalen Reed is ahead of schedule in his recovery, freshman guard Lincoln Cosby is on schedule, and freshman forward Marcus Moller is, at the moment, ready and raring to go.

Reed suffered a left Achilles injury requiring season-ending surgery in a contest with Drake on Dec. 2, 2025. Before the hiccup, Reed averaged 9.5 points and 5.7 rebounds per game off the bench, a slight downturn in production from the 11 points and 6.5 rebounds he was averaging before tearing his ACL two seasons ago.

He’s expected to make an impact for the Wolverines as soon as he’s able to get on the court, which seems to be earlier than was feared.

“He won’t play on the trip, but we did get a pretty positive report on him last week from the doctors that he’s way ahead of schedule,” Boynton said Tuesday. “The initial thought was it would be like a late December kind of ramp up, and I think we’re going to get the green light when we get back (from Europe) to start doing some contact, you know, live stuff with him, and he may be ready to start at the beginning of the season.”
