I’ve been debating the best way to kick off our 2020-21 season preview content. In the past, we went position-by-position to preview Michigan’s personnel, but that becomes more difficult with so much positional ambiguity. Half of each preview devolves into speculation and clarification over who actually plays what position and why they weren’t included in the preview for another position. Juwan Howard has maintained his intention to play positionless offense, which makes traditional designations confusing and often irrelevant.
Instead, I’m going to borrow an idea from Adam Jardy of the Columbus Dispatch: a player-by-player power ranking of Michigan’s roster. I’ve ranked each scholarship player based on their expected impact in 2020-21 from 1-through-12 and will preview them ahead of the season. We’ll start with pairs for the 9th through 12th spots before getting into individual previews for the top eight.
Today, we tackle Brandon Johns Jr. Previously: Adrien Nunez, Jace Howard, Terrance Williams, Zeb Jackson, Austin Davis
