2022-23 Season

Michigan readies for ‘next man up’ with Jaelin Llewellyn’s status uncertain

Michigan — touting a roster full of new faces — is still tinkering with its rotations following the season’s first eight games. And in the wake of Jaelin Llewellyn’s apparent non-contact injury Sunday against Kentucky, there may be even more to figure out.

Llewellyn hasn’t yet performed as the Wolverines would have hoped, following his transfer from Princeton. But so much of what Michigan plans to accomplish hinges on Llewellyn — a veteran leader and point guard meant to score at all three levels and excel as a distributor. Even if his numbers are underwhelming, he is an integral component of the roster.

Saddi Washington did not comment on Llewellyn’s status during a Zoom call Wednesday morning, instead saying that Llewellyn was in “great spirits” on Tuesday.

“We’re just gonna continue to rally around him,” Washington said. “Obviously, we have some of the best medical staff in the world and we’re just going to rely on them. But I also think that it’s a great opportunity for the next man up, for however long Jaelin ends up being out.”
