2024-25 Season

What to watch for: Confident Michigan ready for Iowa’s fast-paced challenge

Dusty May nearly nailed it. Exactly one month and three days ago, sitting triumphantly backstage at the Crisler Center after a 101-53 trouncing of Cleveland State, the Michigan men’s basketball coach put it clearly.

“We told (the players) before the game today: This place probably will be half full tonight,” May said. “And by the next month, because of the way we play and the way we interact with each other and the way we represent Michigan, we want it to be full.

“We’ll give ‘em a month.”

In all fairness, while the calendar may not have lined up perfectly, 33 days later, and the Wolverines very well may see their prophecy fulfilled. After an intrepid journey from home, Michigan returns to the Crisler Center after pocketing two ranked wins, and the chance to build momentum early in league play. More than that though, rejoining the Wolverines will potentially be a revamped Saturday afternoon crowd.

As Iowa comes speeding into Ann Arbor on the back of an electric buzzer-beater over Northwestern, UMHoops.com sheds light on five key topics headed into Saturday’s matchup.
