2024-25 Season

Game 28: Rutgers at Michigan Preview

Michigan tips off a season-defining three-game homestand tonight against Rutgers (9:00 p.m., Peacock). The Wolverines won the first meeting, 66-63, in Piscataway, but now will have to defeat the Scarlet Knights at full strength to stick in the Big Ten title race.

Rutgers is 3-3 since facing Michigan, with wins over Illinois, Washington, and USC and defeats to Oregon, Iowa, and Maryland. Steve Pikiell’s star freshman duo isn’t likely to make the NCAA Tournament without a miracle in Indianapolis, but the recent improvement in form should at least provide that opportunity.

The Scarlet Knights

Rutgers only ranks 11th in the Big Ten in scoring efficiency at 1.07 points per possession, but Steve Pikiell’s group has significant upside on offense.

The Scarlet Knights have averaged 1.22 points per possession in their seven Big Ten wins, compared to just .97 points per trip in their defeats. When they win games, the offense gets hot, thanks to their talented duo of freshman stars.
