Film Room: Previewing Brad Underwood’s spread offense and pressure defense

Film Room is an X’s and O’s breakdown of Michigan basketball. Gibson Pyper diagrams Michigan’s offensive and defensive sets and provides and in-depth schematic look at Michigan’s opponents. Pyper has spent years diagramming college and NBA offenses and takes you inside the nuance of the game with his videos and diagrams each week.

Today’s Film Room previews Illinois which is one of the more difficult teams in the Big Ten to prepare for on both sides of the ball. Pyper breaks down Underwood’s spread offense and then illustrates how his pressure defense forces teams to adjust.

Illinois presents an interesting challenge for any team on both sides of the ball. Brad Underwood’s spread offense is very good and makes you stay disciplined throughout the entire possession. Illinois’ defense is designed off pressure and tries to disrupt every teams offensive flow and try to take you out of what you are trying to run. This can be a challenging game for Michigan on both sides of the ball, but I think primarily on the defensive side of the ball.
