These terms cover your use of UM Hoops: the website at umhoops.com, the UM Hoops forum, our games, emails and shop (together, "UM Hoops"). UM Hoops is run by UM Hoops ("we", "us"). By using UM Hoops you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please don’t use the site.
1. Who we are
UM Hoops is an independent site about University of Michigan basketball. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by the University of Michigan, its athletic department or the Big Ten Conference. Team names, logos and marks belong to their owners and are used only to identify the teams we write about.
2. Your account
- You must be at least 13 years old to create an account, and 18 (or have a parent’s or guardian’s permission) to buy a membership.
- Give accurate information and keep your password to yourself. You are responsible for what happens under your account.
- An account and a membership are for one person. Sharing a login or reselling access is not allowed.
3. Memberships and billing
- We offer paid memberships (currently UM Hoops and UM Hoops+), billed monthly or yearly. The price and what each plan includes are shown on the plans page and at checkout before you pay.
- Memberships renew automatically at the end of each billing period, at the price in effect then, until you cancel. Payments are processed by our payment provider (Stripe); we don’t store your full card number.
- You can cancel anytime from your account page. When you cancel, your membership stays active until the end of the period you’ve already paid for and does not renew.
- Membership payments are not refunded, including for partial periods, except where the law requires it. The details are in our Refund & Cancellation Policy.
- We may change prices or plan features. A price change applies from your next renewal, and we’ll tell you ahead of time by email or on the site.
- Promotional and discounted prices apply for the period stated with the offer; after that the regular price applies.
4. Our content
Articles, analysis, photos, video, audio, data, graphics and the site’s design are owned by UM Hoops or our contributors and licensors and are protected by copyright. Your membership gives you a personal, non-transferable right to read and use them for your own, non-commercial use. You may share links and short quotes with credit to UM Hoops. You may not copy, republish, sell or redistribute member-only content, or use bots, scrapers or other automated tools to collect content or data from UM Hoops (including to train AI models), without our written permission.
5. The forum and what you post
- You own what you post. By posting, you give us a free, worldwide license to host, display and share it on UM Hoops and in our promotion of UM Hoops (for example, quoting a forum post on the site).
- Be respectful. No harassment, threats, hate speech, spam, illegal content, posting others’ private information, or impersonation. Don’t post content you don’t have the right to share.
- Moderators may edit, hide or remove posts and suspend or close accounts that break these rules or the forum guidelines.
6. Games, picks and contests
Our games, Picks and leaderboards are for fun. They involve no wagering, and nothing on UM Hoops is betting advice. If we offer a contest with a prize, it will have its own official rules, which apply alongside these terms. We may reset scores, remove entries or close accounts that cheat or use automated play.
7. The shop
Shop items are made to order and shipped by our print partner. Prices, taxes and shipping are shown at checkout. Returns and replacements are covered in our Refund & Cancellation Policy.
8. Emails
If you sign up for our emails, we’ll send them to the address you give us. Every email has an unsubscribe link. Account and billing emails (receipts, renewal notices) are sent as long as you have an account. How we handle your information is described in our Privacy Policy.
9. Links and third-party services
UM Hoops links to and embeds other services (for example video players, ticket sellers and stores). We aren’t responsible for their content or terms, and some links are affiliate links that may earn us a commission.
10. Changes and availability
We may change, pause or stop parts of UM Hoops, and we may update these terms. If we make a significant change, we’ll update the date above and, for changes that affect members, tell you by email or on the site. Using UM Hoops after a change means you accept the updated terms.
11. Ending your access
You can stop using UM Hoops and close your account at any time. We may suspend or end an account that breaks these terms. If we end a paid membership for a reason other than a breach of these terms, we’ll refund the unused part of the current period.
12. Disclaimers and limits
UM Hoops is provided "as is". We work hard to be accurate, but statistics, schedules, live data and predictions can be wrong or delayed, and we don’t guarantee the site will always be available or error-free. To the fullest extent the law allows, UM Hoops is not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential damages, and our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. Some places don’t allow these limits, so they may not all apply to you.
You agree to cover any claims, losses or costs that result from your breaking these terms or misusing UM Hoops.
13. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Ohio, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute will be handled in the state or federal courts located in Ohio, unless the law where you live requires otherwise.
