After a disappointing road loss on Tuesday night, Michigan hosts Maryland on Saturday (12:00 p.m., FOX) afternoon.
The Terps sit at 19-6 (10-4 Big Ten) on the season. Despite beating Big Ten opponents by 7.8 points per 100 possessions — closer to Michigan at 11.6 than Michigan is to Michigan State at 15.8 — Maryland’s success has mostly flown under the radar.
Big Ten title discussions center around Michigan State, Michigan and Purdue with an occasional mention of Wisconsin. The Terps are rarely in the conversation despite sitting just a game out of first place.
Some media narratives placed Mark Turgeon on the hot seat entering this year, but he’s done an impressive job this season with the most inexperienced roster in the Big Ten.
