Will Tschetter thought he’d have a decision by now.
April 2020 was the month he had circled on his calendar. After the end of his junior season with Stewartville High School, he was planning to play in a few AAU tournaments, take advantage of the spring open recruiting period and commit.
The coronavirus pandemic, of course, blew that plan off course. It also opened the door for Michigan to enter the three-star power forward’s recruitment.
“I decided to go with the flow for a little while,” Tschetter told UM Hoops. “And I guess it paid off.”
Phil Martelli was the first member of the Wolverines’ coaching staff to reach out to Tschetter, calling him early in the spring. Soon, Juwan Howard followed suit. By early June, Michigan had extended an offer.
“(He was) just really excited,” Willie Vang, Tschetter’s AAU coach with the Minnesota Heat, said. “I would say it was probably the first ‘blueblood’ to reach out so I think that meant a lot to him.”
