Howard hopes to sort out rotation with early slate

Michigan has one of the oldest rosters in college basketball. It features five players who are seniors or older; they have played a combined 9,532 minutes of college basketball. Only two scholarship underclassmen project to play heavy minutes off the bat — Hunter Dickinson, who will turn 20 on Wednesday and played for one of the top high schools in the country, and Franz Wagner. The crunch-time lineup could, theoretically, feature four players who are seniors or older, along with Wagner.

In a year rife with uncertainty and abnormality, that experience will be an asset.

But experience should not be confused with continuity or certainty.

Michigan comes into the season with a roster imbalance — deep on wings, questions at point guard and center — that will require sorting through.

Michigan coach Juwan Howard will undoubtedly use the next few weeks to make some of those determinations.

“I’m not sure what the rotation is going to be like at this time,” Howard said Monday. “We’re going to keep growing, and that’s why Monday and Tuesday are going to be some really good practices to prepare for Bowling Green and see what’s going to give us the best chance to win.”
