Michigan’s historic win over No. 5 Baylor shows just how deep this team is

Last season was full of historic moments and firsts for Michigan: Highest-ever seed in the NCAA Tournament, first trip to the Sweet Sixteen, first All-American and many more. This year, making historic moments and firsts was the expectation of a team that returned most of its stars and playmakers.

On Sunday, the thirteenth-ranked Wolverines added their first record to the list for this season: the program’s first win over a top-5 team, No. 5 Baylor.

In a rematch of the Sweet Sixteen battle that ended last year’s season, Michigan exorcised its demons and beat the Bears in overtime, 74-68.

“I’m really proud of the way our team battled through adversity throughout the course of the game,” Michigan coach Kim Barnes Arico said. “Things didn’t really go our way a number of times and then Naz fouled out.”

Again, the teams fought a defensive battle focused on the paint. Again, it wasn’t Naz Hillmon who led the Wolverines, but Leigha Brown.
