With two professional basketball players for parents, a McDonald’s All-American sister, and a brother receiving Division 1 offers, it’s safe to say that playing basketball wasn’t a choice for George Washington III — as he put it, it was in his blood.
And as the 2023 guard gets closer to his own Division 1 career, his college commitment process is heating up. Ranked 76th overall in the 247 Sports Composite, Washington announced his top five earlier this week after decommitting from Ohio State on September 5. That list includes Michigan, and if the Wolverines want to rise to the top of that list, they’ll have an opportunity to sway him during a visit aimed for October 8-9.
“I’m just really excited, it’ll be my first time on campus,” Washington told UM Hoops on Friday. “I’ll be very excited just to kind of get the feel of it, you know, really try to figure out the ins and outs. I’ve already started developing a relationship with the coaches, so I think the next step is to see the school and be there in person.”
Washington has been in frequent contact with Michigan’s coaching staff, especially coach Juwan Howard. He said the two talk or text every other day, and Howard himself has played a primary role in his recruitment process.
