There’s hardly a bigger buzz word than experience inside Crisler Center. With three grad transfers and another year of experience for returners, the Wolverines hope the wisdom of their years can address some of last season’s youthful struggles.
While a veterans presence might not be a panacea to heal all of Michigan’s problems, it can help iron out some of the issues last season’s roster faced.
“We’re older — we’re much older,” Phil Martelli said at Michigan Media Day. “I mean, really last year, Kobe Bufkin was a freshman. Jett Howard was a freshman. Now you have Olivier Nkamhoua who’s played 120 college basketball games. Nimari Burnett has played a lot of basketball games. Tray Jackson has played a lot of basketball games. Now you’re adding them to the mix. (And) you have a little bit different looking Terrance Williams.”
The Wolverines not only added the skills of Nkamhoua, Burnett and Jackson, but also their 241 games of experience. Experience brings many advantages for a roster, from situational details accumulated over time to familiarity with different systems.
