Michigan to face Oakland in charity exhibition at Little Caesars Arena

Michigan and Oakland will face off in a charity exhibition at Little Caesars Arena this season.

The game is scheduled for Sunday, October 20th at 5 p.m. and will be streamed live by BTN-Plus. Proceeds will benefit Forgotten Harvest, a non-profit food insecurity organization whose vision is to work with communities to end hunger and create individual, neighborhood, economic and environmental health.

The game won’t count toward either team’s record but will provide a competitive early-season test. The NCAA typically allows teams to play two preseason games, including exhibitions against non-Division I teams, charity exhibitions against Division I teams, and closed-door secret scrimmages.

“Creating unique experiences for our players and fans is something we strive to do,” Dusty May said in a prepared statement. “This exhibition creates a great matchup for two great in-state programs and helps the Detroit community as we’ve partnered with Forgotten Harvest. We want to make sure we draw the attention needed to their cause and help their goal of providing everyone a meal, every day.”

The Wolverines will officially open the Dusty May era on November 4th when they host Cleveland State at the Crisler Center. Here’s a full rundown of non-conference dates.

Oakland is coming from a special season with an NCAA Tournament upset over Kentucky. The Golden Grizzlies finished 24-12 and 131st on KenPom last year.

Michigan and Oakland last faced off in 2020-21, a tumultuous affair that Michigan eventually won in overtime. The Wolverines are 8-1 all-time against the Golden Grizzlies, with the lone defeat coming at the O’Rena in 2000.

Tickets go on sale Friday (Aug. 23) at 10 a.m. at 313Presents.comTicketmaster.com and the Xfinity Box Office at Little Caesars Arena.

Everyone is on board that they’d rather play something like this than a secret scrimmage, right?

    Preferred preseason schedule?
