Michigan coach Dusty May and his Wolverines entered rarified air on Tuesday night. Summiting a daunting task in No. 7 Purdue, May secured the program’s first top-10 win in three years as well as his first in Maize and Blue. For some coaches, it takes years to reach such a benchmark, and for even more, it never comes.
It was the sort of matchup where anything could have been a turning point, a key matchup, or a crux. Indeed, winning its fifth straight contest by a two-possession margin, the Wolverines battled through multiple double-digit deficits en route to a statement win and pole position in the Big Ten Standings.
After a 27-point loss in West Lafayette just three weeks ago, the Wolverines reaffirmed what a transformative season has been — and what could still be.
“They stayed the course,” May said post game. “There were some times throughout the game, I thought we generated great looks. We generated shots at the rim, and they weren’t dropping, and the easy thing to do is just to drop your head and get in your own feelings. I thought they stayed together.
“They stayed poised. They kept battling. They kept working.”
