There was plenty of buzz surrounding the No. 6 Michigan women’s basketball team in the preseason. Through four games, the Wolverines have more than lived up to that hype.
Michigan won its first four games by an average of 49.5 points. Although three of the four games were against mid-major programs, the fourth win came against the team that ended the Wolverines’ season a year ago. Michigan confidently took down then-No. 18 Notre Dame 93-54, never trailing for a single minute.
As was the case last season, Michigan has been led by the trio of sophomore guards Olivia Olson, Syla Swords and Mila Holloway. Each is averaging over 10 points per game, with Olson leading the team with 17.8, Swords leading with 5.2 rebounds per game, and Holloway leading with four assists and 3.5 steals per game.
Junior forward Ashley Sofilkanich is also averaging 10.5 points per game at 77% from the field and has been the other consistent starter through four games. Two starts were given to senior forward Alyssa Crockett and one given to senior guard Brooke Quarles Daniels, the latter of whom plays similar minutes to the sophomore trio.
Entering the season, sophomore forward Kendall Dudley was anticipated to be a consistent starter, but didn’t enter the starting lineup until the fourth game of the season due to overcoming an offseason injury.
With the hot start and more ranked matchups on the way, here’s a rundown of the Wolverines’ first four games and more on what’s to come:
