The primary job for interim head coach Mike Boynton Jr. this summer is retaining the roster. The Wolverines had constructed one of the more impressive rosters in the sport this offseason, but Dusty May’s departure for the Dallas Mavericks means that it’s on Boynton to keep it together.
Officially, the transfer portal will open on the 31st day after May’s departure — July 24th — or five days after a permanent head coach is announced. When it opens, players will have a 15-day window to potentially enter the portal.
Though the window hasn’t opened yet, Michigan has already received several pledges from players who plan to stay. In the two weeks since May’s departure, eight of 14 players have announced their plans to stay at Michigan. Up to this point, no one has announced their intention to enter the portal.
Here’s a rundown of where the roster stands: each player, his decision, and how he fits.
