Q1 Readiness to start the session
Are you ready to start?
Yeah, just, I'm excited to get going. Um, it's a couple play updates. Obviously, sure, many saw the news about Roddy. We're excited about him having the opportunity to compete with us.
Uh, we think what he brings is invaluable in terms of experience, but also from a skill standpoint on the perimeter. Um, it'll be a great addition. Um, obviously he's been with us most of the summer, so it's not like a new thing for our team. Um, just excited to see see him out there on Sunday against Houston.
Joe Hartman will be out for probably a couple weeks with a shoulder injury. Not going to be season-ending, not at least at this point. We're still evaluating. Hopefully we can get him back in a couple weeks.
He'll be rehabbing his shoulder for at least probably 2 weeks, and we'll give you an update again after that. Marcus Møller's back in town. All his Health tests went well, which is obviously super positive for him. Brandon McCoy is back in town.
He actually left to go get another post-op with his surgeon in LA. And so he's back. He'll be with us, obviously won't play, but he'll be with the team this weekend in Grand Rapids. And Jalen Reed and Ricky Liburd, won't have any medically suggested minutes restrictions.
How much they'll actually play, I don't know, but they won't be limited medically. And I think that's it from an injury standpoint. So excited for this opportunity we have. Obviously, it's going to be the biggest challenge we faced so far.
A team I'm very familiar with. Played them a few times when I was at Oklahoma State in non-conference, and then they were in the Big 12 my last year at Oklahoma State. Probably one of the winningest programs in the country since they've joined the Big 12. I think they're the winningest team in the Big 12 since they joined the Big 12, which is a big statement considering they were dominating the American right before they came over.
What we know they're going to bring is a tremendous amount of physicality to the game, and it's going to test where we are from, from that standpoint. So look forward to it.
Q5 Depth after two exhibitions
I know depth was a big part of your guys' success last season. How do you feel about the depth through 2 exhibition games, both for the short term and then maybe what it can be in a few months?
Yeah, I mean, the depth was, was given a little boost today, you know, certainly with being able to add Roddy, again, his experience. But also after you lose a guy who's as dynamic and big of a part Part of your plans is you doing like Brandon McCoy in August. Having a guy like this sort of offset that. He's not Brandon, they're very different players, but similarly, right?
Big wings who can play 2 ways. And Roddy's obviously got a little bit of experience advantage. I think this team does have a good level of depth. I think, you know, as I go in today, I would imagine Roddy will slide into that starting wing slot.
spot with, uh, Elliot and Trey and with J.P. and Moustapha. And then you're looking at Ricky and Quinn and Oscar probably in that next group with Joseph out. Uh, Marcus is still working back. Jalen Reed is certainly going to be a part of what we do.
So I feel good. I mean, that's where you want to be, you know, 8, 9, 10. You know, the sweet spot's probably 8 is probably perfect, but you got to have 8 really good ones like we did last year to be comfortable at 8. 9 is probably more comfortable for coaches. So we're right there.
Q6 Roddy Gayle NCAA appeals
Chris, is that it with Roddy? You don't expect any more appeals or anything from the NCAA?
I'll be careful here. I've gotten myself in trouble with the NCAA before. I'll say this, I don't expect them to just throw the towel in, but I feel very confident that we have a good set of facts on our side.
