Q1 Summarizing the Michigan-Michigan State rivalry
You've seen a few big rivalries from different vantages during your career. How would you summarize this one?
I didn't really understand the intensity and kind of the passion that it was until we played in it last year. Being an Ohio State, Michigan rivalry, that was something that, you know, I looked up to. And also, like, just kind of seeing it. But the Michigan-Michigan State rivalry is so much more.
Just kind of level intensity you need to bring to that game. You know, the tougher, more physical, more connected team is going to be the one that wins. No matter the location, no matter where it is, or who's coaching. That's just how it's been, you know, forever.
Q3 Winning at Michigan State
It's been a while since Michigan won in these slums, I think since 2010. I guess, what do you think it's going to take to leave with the win?
Uh, just, um, a togetherness that we've never seen before. Um, physicality— we're gonna have to, uh, be able to match their physicality, especially down low, um, and be able to just be more mature. I think that, um, sometimes things don't go our way and we begin to complain, whether it's the refs, coaches. Players.
I think that we just gotta come into the game with a cool level head and get to the next play no matter what, whether it's a missed call or turnovers, no matter what, because we know that Michigan is well coached. They're determined to be able to get the ball down the court as fast as possible. So I think we just gotta come with that approach to get to the next thing.
Q4 Preparing newer teammates for rivalry
You mentioned being a bit surprised by the intensity of the rivalry the first time you experienced it. How do you help a team that's newer in your teammates prepare for that?
Uh, for sure. Um, I think it's more so just like trying to have them imagine, like, as much as like you hate another, like, an opposing side, like, I feel that hatred, but also it's just a respect level as well. Um, you respect everything that they've done this far, especially this season. I feel like they have great, they have a great staff, great players, but I feel like, you know, we're the more talented team.
We just got to come with that physicality and that toughness. But as far as like rivalry goes, I'm just kind of reminding them that this is going to be the most physical game that they ever played in their lives.
