Video: Derrick Walton Updates Recruitment at Adidas Invitatonal

2013 point guard Derrick Walton had 11 points and five assists in a 20-point loss to Martin’s Wolverines on Thursday at the Adidas Invitational. The Michigan offeree took time to discuss new developments in his recruitment after the game:

We’ll have many more updates from the Adidas Invitational in the coming hours and days. For now, you can find a transcript of the interview after the jump.

You said you are pretty confident that Michigan State is going to offer, what makes you believe that?
It was supposed to be on my unofficial visit but they said I didn’t seem too excited about it. I don’t know why, so I guess they are prolonging it a little bit.

If they offer how would they move up your list?
They are high on my list right now, if they don’t offer. So if they do offer they’d be higher.

You have Michigan as one of your favorites, do you have a list of favorites at this point?
Michigan is at the top right now. Obviously Michigan, Michigan State, and a lot of Big Ten schools.

Is Indiana recruiting you? What’s the contact been with Indiana?
Yes. I talk with coach Buckley and coach Crean a lot, well not a lot, but I talked with them both on the first day of the contact period.

Are you going to make it down to Indiana for an unofficial?
I’m going to try to make a visit soon – probably during August.

What are you looking for in the school you pick, what would set a school apart?
My mom wants me to stay close to home so that will probably be a big factor. Somewhere that I can grow as a person and win. I want to go to a program that likes to win.

What are you working at getting better at?
Being a vocal leader. I’m trying to become better at that and also consistently shooting the ball from the outside and all around. Also just continuing to get after it on the ball with my on the ball defense.
