The 2012 NIT Season Tip Off  bracket was formally announced this afternoon by the NCAA, finalizing Michigan’s 2012-13 schedule. Michigan, the No. 1 seed, will headline the tournament along with Pittsburgh, Kansas State and Virginia.

Michigan will open the tournament against IUPUI in a game at Crisler Arena on November 12 at 9 p.m which will be broadcast on ESPNU. Should Michigan knock off IUPUI, the Wolverines will face the winner of Cleveland State and Bowling Green (who will open play on Monday at 6 p.m.) on Tuesday evening at 8 p.m.. That game will also be played in Ann Arbor and televised on ESPN2.

The final rounds of the event will be played Thanksgiving week at Madison Square Garden with the semifinals on November 21st and the finals on November 23rd. Michigan is in line to face Pittsburgh in semifinal action, assuming both teams advance through the opening rounds.

The NIT Season Tip Off is unique because it’s one of the few remaining preseason tournaments that does not guarantee a place in the final four for host schools. That means that Michigan will have to play its way to New York City by winning a pair of home games in early November.

Michigan’s non-conference schedule is also highlighted by North Carolina State, Arkansas and West Virginia. You can view the entire 2012-13 schedule here.
