Michigan won the Big Ten Tournament in New York City and will head into the NCAA Tournament on a 9-game winning streak. Here’s what we learned from the Wolverines’ run through the Big Ten.
No more debate: Michigan is a great defensive team
By about December, it was clear that Michigan’s ability to limit 3-point attempts was legitimate. In January, the Wolverines had been sufficiently tested on the glass to prove that they were a terrific defensive rebounding team.
Each step of the way, there were hints of skepticism. And how could there not be? John Beilein has never coached a great defense and he has the lengthy resume to prove it. Why would this team be any different?
Still to come
- No more debate: Michigan is a great defensive team
- Zavier Simpson isn't just Michigan's defensive leader, he's the point guard
- The offense is getting figured out
- Duncan Robinson is officially back
- This isn't a team of plucky overachievers, it is a legitimate contender
