It is evident to anyone who has watched Michigan play that Zavier Simpson is an elite one-on-one defender, but how else does Simpson impact the Wolverines’ defense? I examined film from the majority of Michigan’s games this season to identify the ways Simpson contributes to such a stout defensive group — one allowing opponents to score a meager 0.82 points per possession (PPP) while he’s on the floor.
