Michigan is going back to California after advancing to its fifth Sweet 16 in seven years with a 64-49 win over Florida.
The 15-point victory was trying at times, but it was the sort of game that defines this team. The Wolverines suffocated Florida with the best defense in the country and scored just efficiently enough to demoralize their opponent down the stretch.
Jordan Poole paced the Wolverines with 19 points, but Zavier Simpson was the star. The point guard adjusted Michigan’s offense on the fly against Florida’s switching defenses and finished with a near-triple-double: 9 points, nine rebounds, and nine assists.
