National voices weigh in on Juwan Howard hire

Juwan Howard was named as the 17th head coach in program history on Wednesday. The hiring came after more than a week of speculation since John Beilein took the Cavaliers job on May 13th.

UM Hoops reached out to national writers across the country to get their input on the hire. Did Michigan make the right decision? Will Howard be able to handle the adjustment to the college game?

It’s definitely a risk. It has been 25 years since Juwan Howard was on a college campus, and in those 25 years, the game – and what being a college head coach at a school like Michigan entails – has changed drastically. It’s not exactly breaking news that hiring NBA coaches with little to no college, high school or AAU experience has had very mixed results.
