No timeline for Franz Wagner’s return

Freshman wing Franz Wagner is progressing in his recovery from a right wrist fracture, though he still has not returned to practice. He will not be on the court Friday when the Michigan basketball team takes on Houston Baptist, its final tune-up before a trip to the Bahamas in the Battle 4 Atlantis.

“Alex and our medical staff have done a great job in helping Franz get through the process,” said Michigan coach Juwan Howard on Thursday, “but we don’t have a timeline right now at this moment.”

Howard was coy Thursday afternoon, cautious not to divulge too much information. He said Wagner is still wearing a splint, and is active in as many ways as possible during practices. But the delay in kicking off a much-anticipated freshman campaign has caused some angst.

“This process has been a frustrating process for him,” Howard said. “Any player would be frustrated, upset to see his teammates out there competing in practice and the games. Unfortunately, you cannot join them, but throughout the process, he’s been working extremely hard on his conditioning, doing as much as he can do, what’s allowed for him to do.”
