For the second game in a row, Michigan lost a key starter to foul trouble. For the second game in a row, Juwan Howard went to the next man up. Howard trusts his team, just like he’s urged his team to trust him.
“When you have a coach that you know cares about you genuinely, both on and off the floor,” David DeJulius explained. “Then, you’ll run through a brick wall for him, as you can see how we played today.”
Today it was Zavier Simpson saddled with foul trouble. Simpson is leading the nation in assists and central to everything that the Wolverines do on offense and defense. Instead of folding, the Wolverines ran a top ten team out of the gym.
Simpson sat the final 10 minutes of the first half and only saw the floor for seven minutes in the second before he fouled out. Eli Brooks and DeJulius were more than up to the challenge, scoring 35 points on 14-of-23 shooting and extending a 24-point lead in the second half.
