Every step that Juwan Howard has taken since he was hired as Michigan’s head coach in May has been met with a question.
An aura of skepticism surrounded his hire, some of it healthy and natural, some of it maybe not as much. In his first month on the job, Howard didn’t just answer those questions he ripped up the test.
A month later and the people who were asking the questions are looking inward and wondering just how good Michigan really is. The Wolverines dismantled two top-10 teams in the Bahamas this week and already have five wins over high-major opponents. They look like one of the best teams in college basketball, not a charming story of a former player who is a first-year head coach.
It might have happened in a resort ballroom, but the broadcast back to the United States was clear. Juwan Howard’s Michigan has arrived, and it is time for the college basketball world to take notice.
